From August 2013 until June 2015 I used to live in London. What did I do there for two years? I decided to become an au pair for a lovely two year old. She and her parents made my time in London perfect and I found a second family in them.
After graduation from high school, I wanted to become an au pair so badly. My dream destination were the States. I managed to get an au pair position in January 2013, but had to go back to Germany after 6 months as it didn’t work out well with the host family.
I decided to give aupairing a second change and ended up getting a job offer from London. I was never interested in London or England, but I still decided to go to London as I fell in love with the little girl as soon as I saw her on a picture. And this was the best decision ever!! My time in London has helped me to change too: from a shy, calm and introverted girl to a lady who has no problem telling what she likes and dislikes, showing her emotions (yeah I am most probably the most emotional person on earth haha) and being open-minded to new things and people that don’t have the prototypical characteristics.
With the whole au pair thing I “wasted” 3 years. Once I came back to Germany my friends had already finished their studies and were about to start a job. But to me it wasn’t wasted time. It made me a better person. If I had started university straight after graduation from high school, I would’ve still been the shy girl that can’t speak up for herself.
In this article I want to give you a brief insight in an au pair’s life in London. If you have any further questions about my time as an au pair, let me know and I’ll do an article about my experience as an au pair.
